Without resorting to drama and visual reconstruction, In Search of Mozart, tracks composers’ lives through their music and extensive correspondence. From K1a to K626 (Requiem), more than 80 works are presented in chronological order, which show the striking similarities between the music and Mozart’s own experiences. The most important thing all the time is the music that forms around the puzzle of Mozart’s life. Thanks to a rigorous analysis of musicologists and experts such as Jonathan Miller, Cliff Eisen, Nicholas Till, Bayan Northcott and the late Stanley Sadi, a new and vivid impression of the composer is emerging. Dispel many popular myths about the genius, health, relationships, death and character of Mozart to present a new image, very different from Milos Formans Amadeus.
Narrated by Juliette Stevenson, with Mozart, with the voice of Samuel West, the film features interviews and performances with more than 70 Mozart music teachers, including: Christoph Rousset, Sir Roger Norrington, Ren Jacobs, Sir Charles Mackerren, Rene Flegman Sandrin Piau, Ian Bostridge, Gerald Finley, Sir Thomas Allen, Imogen Cooper, Pierre Laurent Aimard, Leif ove Andsnes, Lang Lang and Kampa Quartet. The 18th-century Frans Bruggens Orchestra and Ronald Brautigam perform most of the orchestra’s repertoire, but the film also includes live performances by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, St. Martin in Paula, Chamber from Salzburg, Bayerische Rundfunks, Kln Concert, Dutch Opera, the Statscapel Berlin and the Prague Theater from Prague.
